DURING an informal meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir on the sidelines of 76th session of the UN General Assembly, in New York, the forum sought immediate action to improve human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The participants also expressed commitment to continue supporting the Kashmiri people to reach a lasting solution that preserves their dignity and rights.
The statement on part of OIC would indeed be a matter of solace for oppressed Kashmiri people yet is not sufficient enough to heal their wounds until and unless is also coupled with action on the ground.
We appreciate the OIC for constantly supporting Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir dispute, but mere statements and lip service will only fall on deaf ears and not deter Modi government from brutal oppression it has unleashed in the occupied Valley.
Ever since illegal and unilateral steps of 5th August 2019, life of oppressed Kashmiris has become more miserable.
They have been confined to their homes and are facing all sorts of restrictions including communication blockade. Their leadership is also in detention.
While Prime Minister Imran Khan has forcefully presented the case of Kashmiris at international level, exposing true face of fascist regime in India, we will urge the Muslim countries to also stand by their Kashmiri brothers and sisters in real sense by rising above their corporate interests.
India will be compelled to end its atrocities in occupied Valley and move towards its resolution, if all the Muslim countries especially those in the Gulf countries use their influence on it. The OIC will have to come up with a clear plan of action to end the miseries of Kashmiris.
Our government should also approach different segments of society including the academia and media in these countries in order to sensitise the people at large there about what is really going on with Muslims in Kashmir under Modi government.
The Kashmiri people are also looking towards the UN and major capitals to fulfil the promise made with them for right to self -determination.
