Sindh Transport Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, on Monday, said that government was striving to complete BRT Redline project within stipulated time for ensuring modern transport facilities to citizens of Karachi.
He was presiding over a meeting to review progress on BRT Red Line that was attended by Asian Development Bank’s Senior Urban Development Specialist Lloyd Wright, representatives of French Development Agency, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Secretary Transport Abdul Halim Sheikh, MD Sindh Mass Transit Authority Captain (R) Altaf Hussain Sario, CEO Trans Karachi and contractors of the project. BRT Redline is Pakistan’s first bio-gas project in transport sector that is being developed with cooperation of ADB, AIIB and AFD and its estimated cost is $ 503 million.
The meeting reviewed pace of work on lot I and II of the project and obstacles in completion of the project. Sharjeel Memon directed Mass Transit Authority to submit progress report of the work done and said that Sindh government, after completion of People’s Bus Service and BRT Orange Line, was committed to complete the project within its two-year period. He also directed to ensure transfer of utilities on the route of the Red Line at the earliest for gearing up the development work as government was striving to provide the best and modern public transport facilities to the citizens of Karachi. Sharjeel Inam Memon also directed to address the issues in BRT bus depot.
