The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has called upon US President Joe Biden to raise the issue of blatant human rights violations by occupation forces in Indian Illegal Occupied Jammu and Kashmir during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar reminded Washington of its deep commitment to protecting the human rights enshrined in the Univer-sal Declaration of Human Rights. He said the linger-ing dispute has already consumed Kashmiris’ three generations.
It is worth mentioning that two US lawmakers, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, have already an-nounced to boycott Modi’s address to the US Con-gress citing his government’s repressive policies against minorities, patronizing of violent Hindu nationalist groups and targeting of journalists and human rights defenders in India.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Con-ference, headed by Farooq Abdullah, has initiated a campaign to expose five-year misrule in occupied territory by Narendra Modi-led Indian government. In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, APHC leaders and parties have urged India to shun its anti-Kashmir polices and take sincere steps for the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through talks.
APHC leaders Davinder Singh Bhel, Narender Singh Khalsa, Shahid Saleem, Muhammad Aqib, Jammu Kashmir Pirpanchal Freedom Movement and Jammu Kashmir Awami Party in their separate statements issued in Jammu said the oppression was meant to weaken people of Jammu and Kashmir politically and economically.
They said that the Kashmiris’ struggle for secur-ing their right to self-determination could not be sup-pressed through India’s intransigence and brutal policies.
They maintained that India should take a cue from Pakistan’s unflinching support to the Kashmir cause and seriously engage for the settlement of Kashmir dispute to end uncertainty in the region.
The statements also paid glowing tributes to prominent Islamic scholar, Dr Qazi Nisar Ahmad on his 29th martyrdom anniversary.
They said that during the ongoing movement a large number of people, including Hurriyat leaders, religious scholars, academicians and youth had ren-dered their lives for the Kashmir cause. These sacri-fices are precious assets of the liberation movement, they added.
The leaders urged the human rights organizations to take note of the plight of illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in various jails in India and the occupied territory.—KMS
