The Sindh Information Commission (SIC) and the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) have initiated discussions to enhance public awareness regarding the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2016 in the province.
Led by Ahmad Mahboob Bilal, a delegation from PILDAT met with Chief Information Commissioner Dr. Jawed Ali and Information Commissioner-I Shahid Abbas Jatoi at the SIC’s office to explore avenues for joint efforts.
The primary aim of this collaboration is to educate designated officials and the general populace, particularly vulnerable segments, media, and civil society representatives, to empower them as active users of the RTI law. Dr. Jawed Ali underscored the importance of civil society’s engagement in utilizing RTI for effective governance oversight and implementation.
He commended PILDAT for its ongoing support and dedication to promoting RTI awareness. Ahmed Mehboob Bilal, President of PILDAT, briefed the Commission on the organization’s various projects aimed at benefiting diverse communities. Notably, PILDAT, in partnership with US AID & CPDI, has launched the “HumAhang” project in South Punjab and Northern Sindh, targeting the eradication of extremism and violence against women, minorities, and other vulnerable groups in districts such as Khairpur, Sukkur, and Shikarpur.
The delegation sought SIC’s support in organizing training workshops for designated officials to facilitate peace-building and dialogue between citizens and the government. Dr. Jawed Ali assured full support and assistance from the Commission in this endeavor.
