ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif announced major reduction in electricity tariffs for the industrial sector, lowering price by Rs10.69 per unit.
The new initiative aims to enhance exports and industrial production. The new electricity rate for the industrial and export sector is now set at Rs34.99 per unit.
A statement issued by Prime Office said the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) proposed this reduction. The PM’s package is anticipated to deliver over Rs200 billion in relief to industries, improving their competitiveness in the global market.
This package aims to align the country’s manufacturing costs with international standards. It is also expected to reduce the production costs of industrial and agricultural goods, thereby boosting exports.
This measure is likely to accelerate industrial growth, create new job opportunities, and stimulate economic activity. Low demand is a central factor behind these periodic adjustments.
