The Punjab Assembly (PA) unanimously passed a resolution on Monday condemning lynching incidents and emphasized upon protection of all citizens. The resolution follows the lynching of a tourist in Swat over allegations of desecrating the Holy Quran.
The victim, a local tourist, was beaten to death by a violent mob and his body, along with the police station where he was held, was set on fire. The resolution, introduced by PML-N lawmaker RaheelaKhadimHussain, declared such incidents “extremely worrying” and unacceptable in a civilized society. The resolution states, “This House strongly condemns the horrific incidents of blasphemy and demands that the government ensure the protection of all citizens. The government should take immediate and necessary steps to identify and prosecute those involved in such incidents.”
Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan emphasized that these incidents violate the Constitution, which guarantees equal protection for all citizens.
Earlier, the National Assembly passed a resolution on Sunday condemning recent mob-lynching incidents across Pakistan. Introduced by Law Minister AzamNazeerTarar, the resolution stressed that the right to life is the most cherished right enshrined in the Constitution, stating that everyone should be treated in accordance with the law.
