Former President of the Employers Federation of Pakistan Majyd Aziz, emphasized the pivotal role of student councils in nurturing future leaders during his address to the Millennium Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship (MITE) Student Council members. He urged the council to lead inclusively and avoid divisive politics, highlighting the importance of addressing the objectives and needs of all students. “Student councils are nurseries for future leaders,” Aziz remarked, stressing that the experiences and lessons gained during their tenure would serve as a foundation for effective leadership in their careers, whether in trade bodies, professional organizations, or other fields.
Aziz noted that, as a potential recruiter, he would value student council leadership experience more highly than participation in social clubs like Rotary or Lions Club.
“The goal should be to make MITE a globally recognized institution that graduates can proudly call their alma mater,” he said. Reflecting on his own journey, Aziz shared that he regretted not leading a student council during his university years in Pakistan and the United States.
He credited his professional success, including leadership roles in the Employers Federation of Pakistan, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and South Asian Forum of Employers, to the values of honesty, courage, and passion. Aziz encouraged the student leaders to view their roles as opportunities to build not only their institution’s reputation but also their personal leadership skills
