LAHORE – The Punjab Police have completed a comprehensive security plan to ensure law and order on New Year’s Eve.
According to a police spokesperson, over 25,000 officers and personnel will be deployed across the province, including Lahore. The deployment includes 395 inspectors, 1,125 sub-inspectors, 2,060 ASIs, 1,310 head constables, and 18,759 constables and other staff.
In Lahore alone, more than 5,000 officers and personnel will be on security duty.
The activities across the province including Lahore would be monitored through CCTV cameras.
The Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed police to remain on high alert and keep a close watch on anti-state elements.
IGP Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized that one-wheeling, aerial firing and unruly behavior would not be tolerated on New Year’s Eve.
The miscreants who cause trouble, harass women or disturb the citizens would face strict action and would be arrested.
The IGP also directed authorities to ensure smooth traffic management, instructing Dolphin Squad, PERU, Elite Force and Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) teams to increase patrolling on roads and highways.
He further ordered regular search and sweep operations in all cities including Lahore, and required surety bonds from previously recorded offenders involved in one-wheeling and aerial firing.
Dr. Usman Anwar added that CCPO Lahore, RPOs and DPOs must personally oversee all arrangements to maintain public order.
District traffic officers including the CTO Lahore were instructed to deploy additional personnel to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The citizens have been urged to report incidents of one-wheeling, weapon displays and aerial firing by calling the police helpline at 15.
