Political instability
Political instability in Pakistan has led to numerous social and economic challenges, including economic stagnation, unemployment, brain drain, terrorism, and illiteracy. As per the 2024 Terrorism Index, Pakistan ranks 6th, tarnishing its international image. This instability not only disrupts internal affairs but also negatively impacts Pakistan’s foreign policy, making it difficult to attract foreign investments. The country’s political history, characterized by leadership crises, an unstable constitution, the early death of Quaid-i-Azam and frequent military interventions, has further compounded the issue. After gaining independence in 1947, Pakistan faced instability due to inconsistent leadership and the absence of a permanent constitution until 1956. Military coups, such as Ayub Khan’s in 1958, centralized power, but failed to stabilize the system long-term.
Pakistan’s political system remains plagued by provincial conflicts and internal divisions, undermining democratic norms. This political uncertainty discourages foreign investors. Terrorism has further harmed the country’s image, with more than 900 lives lost, including security personnel and citizens. Despite agreements with countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia and China, political instability continues to hinder economic progress. Pakistan’s population, ranked 6th globally, is underutilized due to poor resource management. To stabilize the political system, Pakistan must resolve party conflicts, create opportunities for small and medium enterprises and harness its human resources effectively to overcome the economic crisis and attract foreign investment.

Karachi’s water crisis
Through the columns of your noble newspaper, I want to draw attention to the deteriorating water crisis in Karachi, a city that accommodates millions of people. Despite being the economic hub of Pakistan, the residents of Karachi face acute shortages of clean and safe drinking water. This critical situation is causing serious health hazards, as waterborne diseases are becoming alarmingly common.
The unregulated water supply, lack of infrastructure and growing dependence on water tankers have made water access both expensive and unreliable for the common man. Moreover, illegal hydrants and the mismanagement of existing resources are aggravating the crisis. It is essential that the government take steps to act on this very critical issue. Financial investment in water treatment plants, repairing the pipelines where leakages come due to certain flaws and stringent laws against water pilferage can help mitigate the situation. Public awareness programs about water conservation should also be undertaken for its sustainable utilization.

Unjust delays
In district Ghotki, Primary School Teacher (PST) appointment orders under the Sindh Education Department were distributed in four phases from 2022 to 2025, with each phase delayed by 4-6 months. The last phase is being distributed now, but a new rule requiring clear medical reports has been introduced, which was not part of previous phases despite candidates having similar medical reports. Additionally, candidates were given only 15 days to resolve health issues before submitting their files. However, this process was delayed by seven days, and when candidates attempted to submit their forms, they were informed they were too late. The officer in charge refused to accept the forms, despite the delay being caused by the institution’s instructions.
This situation is unjust, as these individuals, after years of education, are now being treated as if their efforts have been in vain. I urge the higher authorities of the Education Department to ensure fairness and support the students, as they may be last in the distribution, but they are certainly not the least.
