With over 1.5 billion population and immense trade, tourism and business potential the African markets are teeming with opportunities for the Pakistani business community and visitors.
These views were expressed by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi while speaking as Chief Guest the Africa Day reception marking the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organization of African Unity (May 25, 1963).
The reception was hosted at the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) Mohamed Yahya’s residence.
A large number of the ambassadors and diplomats of the African countries, heads of the UN agencies in Islamabad, local business community, senior officials and above all the African nationals and their families attended the reception in their colourful national dress.
Governor KP congratulated the African brothers and sisters on the historic day and said that Pakistan should further enhance business, trade, investment and tourism with the African countries which have great promise for businessmen of this land.
We at the Governor’s House are planning to host a football match between the KP Football Team and the African Football players and I would be happy to host the event for you, he said.
Amb Hamid Asghar Khan said Pakistan is actively pursuing ‘Look Africa’ policy and exchange of government and business delegates is a regular feature of this policy.
The day is not far when we the Pakistani markets will be open to the African companies and vice versa.
About the Pak-Africa relations, he said they are growing fast and business groups and members of chambers and commerce are regularly meeting to chalk out a common strategy for cooperation.
Ambassador of Morocco and Dean of the African countries also voiced the need for enhanced engagement between the Pakistani and the African business houses.
The day, he said assumed huge significance with regard to the African unity and showcasing this continent’s rich culture and cuisine.
The UN Resident Coordinator Mohamed Yahya emphasized the need for greater cooperation among the countries for the cause of peace, progress and prosperity.
The guests enjoyed on the occasion the African countries’ food and music.
