RIYADH – Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday triggered speculation about his future with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr after sharing a cryptic post on social media, shortly after the conclusion of the league’s season.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the 39-year-old footballer wrote, “This chapter is closed!” in a brief post that many interpreted as a possible farewell message.
In a follow-up line, Ronaldo added, “The story? Still being written. I’m grateful to everyone on this journey.”
Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in January 2023 on a record-breaking £164 million per year deal, following his departure from Manchester United in 2022.
Since joining the Riyadh-based club, Ronaldo has scored 93 goals in 105 appearances. His most notable achievement came in 2023 when he led Al-Nassr to victory in the Arab Club Champions Cup.
However, he failed to secure a Saudi Pro League title during his tenure.
The star forward’s contract with Al-Nassr is officially set to run until June 2025. In what could be his final appearance for the club, Ronaldo scored a goal in a 3-2 defeat against Al-Fateh on May 26, 2025.
Amid growing speculation, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that Ronaldo is in talks with several clubs expected to compete in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which begins in the United States on June 14.
Ronaldo’s post has left fans and pundits alike questioning whether the football legend is preparing for a move ahead of what could be the final stretch of his illustrious career.
