Ambassador Marilina reaffirms Rome’s commitment to global peace
Italy, a founding country of the European Union (EU), a country deeply engaged in multilateral institutions, like the United Nations (UN) and the G7, will continue to commit to the protection of the fundamental rights of the person, for peace and dialogue among peoples and States.
The reassurance came from Ambassador of Italy Marilina Armellin at a reception she and her consort Mr Domenico Polloni had hosted to celebrate the National Day of the Italian Republic at the Serena Hotel Monday evening.
The reception was attended by prominent figures of Pakistan and Italy including parliamentarians, ministers, mountaineers and climate activists, representatives of various business companies, think tanks and institutions. Heads of various UN agencies were also invited to the reception by Ambassador Marilina who is known among her colleagues as a wonderful hostess and a competent diplomat.
For the event, two Italian chefs Samuele Zaninotto and Antonio Cruccas, were there with authentic Italian dishes for the guests.
Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar was the Chief Guest on the occasion while ministers and parliamentary secretaries including Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Kheal Das Kohistani, Aqeel Malik, Qaiser Sheikh, Awn Chaudhry and Governor of KP Faisal Karim Kundi were also there to felicitate Ambassador, her spouse and the Italian nationals.
Chief Guest, Attaullah Tarar on behalf of the government and the people of Pakistan extended warm felicitation to the friendly government and the people of Italy. Pakistan and Italy share a rich history of diplomatic relations founded on mutual trust, cooperation and a commitment to global peace and development.
Tarar also mentioned Italy’s interior minister’s visit to Pakistan to sign an important bilateral MoU on migration and labour mobility. Our bilateral trade has already crossed the US1 billion mark, he said noting a number of the Italian companies are working Pakistan. Our students (estimated 3500) are studying in Italy and the Pakistani diaspora contributing to Italian economy.
Earlier, Ambassador Marilina in her welcome address said Italy as per its tradition and values, has been playing a vital role for global peace and stability. In 2025, as never before, Rome and Italy are at the centre of the international efforts for peace and one of these peace initiatives ‘The Food for Gaza,’ spearheaded by the Italian Government with the WFP, the FAO and the ICRC was launched in Rome in March, she said.
