RAHIM YAR KHAN – A 13-year-old domestic worker was allegedly tortured to death by her employers in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, said the local police on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Samia, was a resident of Kotla Pathan and had been employed at the house of a man namely Shahram for the past three years.
The District Police Officer (DPO) Irfan Sammo said that the preliminary investigations suggested that Samia died as a result of brutal physical abuse at the hands of the employer and his wife.
Following her death, the couple reportedly informed the girl’s mother of her “sudden demise” and returned the body to her under the cover of darkness, wrapped in a burial shroud.
However, upon receiving the body, the grieving mother discovered visible signs of torture and immediately alerted the police. Acting swiftly, the police raided the premises and arrested the couple, who were attempting to flee.
DPO Sammo confirmed that the body was sent for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family. Initial medical findings revealed signs of severe torture from head to toe.
The case has sparked renewed concern over the plight of underage domestic workers in Pakistan.
The police said that the formal investigation is underway, and the suspects remain in custody as further legal proceedings continue.
