ABU DHABI – United Arab Emirates government announced public holiday for government sector employees on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) confirmed that this holiday will apply to all public sector workers, allowing them to enjoy a three-day long weekend when combined with the regular Saturday and Sunday off.
The announcement highlights importance of the Hijri calendar in Gulf region, which follows the lunar months and starts the new year on the first day of Muharram. Normal office hours in government departments will resume on Monday, June 30.
This initiative not only honors the cultural and religious significance of the Hijri New Year but also provides an opportunity for employees to spend time with family and participate in related celebrations.
UAE announced its official public holidays for 2025, with at least 12 days off including major Islamic celebrations and the National Day. While most dates are set, exact timings of Eid and Islamic holidays will be confirmed based on moon sightings, with scientific predictions guiding the estimates. The new holiday regulations apply to both public and private sectors starting January 1, 2025.
