ISLAMABAD – Widespread monsoon rains are predicted in Pakistan from June 25.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents penetrate upper and central parts of Pakistan which will intensify in next two days. A westerly wave will approach upper parts on June 25 and will become significant on June 26.
Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, significant monsoon rains with scattered heavy falls are likely in Pakistan from June 25.
Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan:
Rains and windstorms with scattered heavy falls and at times very heavy are predicted in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur) from June 24 (evening/night) to July 02 with occasional gaps. Rains and windstorms are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) from June 26 to June 29 with occasional gaps.
Punjab/Islamabad:
Rains and windstorms with scattered heavy falls and at times very heavy are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from June 25 to July 01 with occasional gaps. Rains and windstorms are expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah from June 26 to June 28.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:
Rains and windstorms with scattered heavy falls and at times very heavy are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram from June 25 to July 01 with occasional gaps.
Balochistan:
Rains and gusty winds are expected in northeastern/southern parts (Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Naseerabad, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Awaran, Kalat, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti and Kohlu) from June 25 to June 28.
Sindh:
Rains and gusty winds are expected in upper and southeast Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Badin and Karachi) from June 25 to June 28 with occasional gaps.
Possible Impacts and advice:
Heavy rains may generate flash flood in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab, and Kashmir from June 26 to July 01.
Downpour may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar from June 26 to July 01 and in Hyderabad and Karachi from June 26 to June 28.
Landslides may cause roads closure in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet spell.
Downpour/windstorm and lightning may damage weak structures like roof/wall of dilapidated houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast.
