ISLAMABAD – National Security Committee NSC reiterated Iran’s right to Self defense under UN Charter as tensions soar in Middle East after the US strikes.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired high-level meeting of National Security Committee (NSC) today to review escalating regional tensions following recent Israeli military strikes against Tehran.
In an official statement, the principal forum that is mandated for considering national security and foreign policy matters unequivocally condemned Israel’s aggressive actions, expressing deep concern over the timing of the attacks, which occurred during ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the US.
The country’s top civil and military leaders warned that such provocations could further destabilize the region and derail opportunities for peaceful dialogue.
Calling Israeli strikes “reckless,” NSC stressed they posed a serious threat to regional peace and had potential to spark wider conflict. The Committee reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense under the United Nations Charter.
Offering condolences to the Iranian government and people, NSC mourned the loss of innocent lives and extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. The meeting also addressed the June 22 attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Terming these strikes a violation of international law, IAEA resolutions, and the UN Charter, the NSC underscored the gravity of such actions and their potential to inflame the situation further.
Islamabad’s commitment to peace and diplomacy was reiterated, with NSC highlighting Islamabad’s ongoing engagement with regional and international partners. Committee endorsed the country’s readiness to contribute to all initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and promoting long-term regional stability.
