LAHORE – Widespread monsoon rains and gusty winds are likely in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Wednesday night and the next 2-3 days.
Heavy rains are expected at scattered places during the period.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate most parts of Pakistan which will intensify during the next 24 hours. A westerly wave also prevails over the upper parts.
Under these weather conditions, intermittent rains and gusty winds with scattered heavy falls are likely in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sargodha, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Layyah, Bhakkar, Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad and Sahiwal on Wednesday night and the next 2-3 days.
Isolated rains and gusty winds are predicted in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar. Heavy to very heavy rains may generate flash floods in nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab.
Downpour may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad. Landslides may cause roads closure in the vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galiyat.
Downpour/windstorm and lightning may damage weak structures like dilapidated buildings, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.
Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 35°C and 37°C on Thursday, between 34°C and 36°C on Friday, and between 33°C and 35°C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in upper Punjab during the last 24 hours. Hot and humid weather prevailed elsewhere in the province.

Bhakkar and Dera Ghazi Khan remained the hottest places in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 45°C. The maximum temperature in Sahiwal was recorded at 44°C.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 82 per cent.
