ISLAMABAD – All passport offices will remain closed for two days across Pakistan due to public holidays in connection with Youm-e-Ashur 2025.
The federal government has announced two holidays on July 5 and 6 (Muharram 9 and 10) on account of Ashura.
The government offices, including the passport centres, will not provide services to citizens during these two days while they will resume on Monday (July 7).
Earlier, Sindh government declared 5th and 6th July as public holidays to mark Ashura, a notification confirmed.
The provincial authorities officially declared public holidays on 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram to observe the sacred Islamic days with due reverence. The notification issued by the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department said all government and semi-government offices across the province will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday.
These two public holidays will also apply to municipal councils and autonomous authorities operating under the Sindh government.
The decision has been made in line with the traditional observance of Muharram, and Ashura, the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala, which is commemorated with mourning processions and religious gatherings across Pakistan.
Authorities have urged the public to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the Ashura processions to ensure a secure and respectful environment.
