Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari, while speaking to the media during the main Ashura procession in Faisalabad, stated that she remained on the ground on the special instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz to personally monitor security, facilities, and arrangements.
She said that Alhamdulillah, Ashura was observed across Punjab with great reverence, peace, and unity. All processions reached their designated destinations safely. AzmaBokhari emphasized that the Punjab Government took historic, foolproof measures for Majalis and processions during Muharram — measures unmatched in previous years. In Faisalabad and across the province, district, and divisional administrations, peace committees, police, rescue teams, and other departments remained fully alert and active throughout. She expressed gratitude for the Chief Minister’s strong support and close supervision, adding that mourners were praying for the CM in appreciation of the remarkable arrangements — a clear reflection of public trust. Sharing details of the action taken against those attempting to disrupt religious harmony, AzmaBokhari stated that strict action has been taken against elements spreading religious hatred on social media. Over 417 social media accounts have been blocked, and legal proceedings have been initiated against individuals responsible for spreading hateful content, resulting in arrests and FIRs.
She firmly stated that Sectarianism will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We must ensure respect for each other’s beliefs.
The Provincial Minister lauded the exemplary performance of the Faisalabad Division administration, acknowledging the dedication of district officers and security agencies in maintaining peace. She noted that administrative teams remained present in the field until the conclusion of all processions and Majalis responding promptly to any emergency. AzmaBokhari further informed that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally received real-time updates from all districts and closely monitored the situation.
