LAHORE – At least seven people, including four children and one woman, died in rain-related mishaps in different parts of Punjab during the recent wet spell.
According to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday, 11 people, including three children and two women, were also injured.
In Rawalpindi, one child died while four other family members, including two children and one woman, were injured due to the roof collapse of a house in Chahat Mohallah. Three children were drowned in storm stormwater drain in Kallar Syedan. In a separate incident, one man drowned in a nullah.
In Kamonke, one woman died while one man and a child were injured when the roof of a house collapsed on Mandiyala Road.
In Lahore, one worker died after he was trapped in mud while working on a sewage drain. In three separate roof collapse incidents, four persons, including one woman, were injured.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has said that the aggrieved families would be compensated as per the government policy. He said losses of citizens would be compensated as per the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister. He appealed to the citizens to take necessary precautions to avoid any mishap during the wet spell.
