LAHORE – Significant monsoon rains lashed Lahore and parts of Punjab on Tuesday, disrupting routine life by causing urban flooding, frequent traffic jams and power outages.
Experts have predicted more rain with heavy falls on Tuesday night and the next two days, with occasional gaps.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents penetrate most parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also affects the central/southern parts of the country.
Under these conditions, widespread monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot, Okara, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan on Tuesday night and the next two days with occasional gaps. Heavy falls may also occur in the northeast/southern parts during the forecast period.
Wet spell may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and northeast Punjab. Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad.
Lahore’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33°C and 35°C on Wednesday and between 34°C and 36°C on Thursday.
Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in Lahore and parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Bahawalnagar and Noorpur Thal remained the hottest places in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 41°C. The maximum temperature in Sahiwal was recorded at 40°C.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 62 per cent.
