KARACHI – The investigations are ongoing into the mysterious death of television actress Humaira Asghar, whose severely decomposed body was discovered in a flat in Defence Phase 6 on July 8.
According to DIG South Asad Raza, preliminary findings suggest that the actress may have died nearly eight months ago. The body was found when a court bailiff, accompanied by the property owner, arrived at the flat due to non-payment of rent. After receiving no response, the bailiff broke open the door and discovered the remains.
DIG Raza stated that the smell from a decomposing body can linger between 5 to 40 days, and during that period, the neighbouring flat remained unoccupied. “The adjacent unit had been vacant for quite some time. The bathroom window in the room next to where the body was found was open, possibly allowing the smell to escape unnoticed,” he said.
He added that the building’s management committee, security guard, and neighbouring residents would also be questioned as part of the investigation.
“Humaira Asghar used to travel frequently between Karachi and Lahore, which may have led people to assume she was out of town,” he said.
The investigators believed the death might have occurred around October 7, 2024. Three days after that date, the building’s watchman attempted to call her but received no response.
A friend also tried contact her once after that.
The post-mortem report showed that the body was in the final stage of decomposition, supporting the theory that the death occurred several months ago.
The circumstances surrounding Humaira Asghar’s death remain unclear, and police say they are pursuing all possible leads to determine the cause and nature of her demise.
