The Punjab Planning and Development Commission has released details of 18 foreign donor agencies-funded projects to be completed at a cost of Rs 133 billion in the fiscal year 2020-21.
The P&D sent details of the 18 important projects to be executed in Lahore to Chief Minister’s Secretariat and other departments, which include seven projects with funds from Asian Development Bank (ADB) and five from World Bank (WB) while three projects to be funded by Asian Infrastructure Development Bank. Other donor agencies including The Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA); French Development Agency and Department for International Development (DFID) will fund one project each.
According to the details, funds worth Rs 133 billion is estimated to be received from foreign-donor agencies while soft loans worth Rs97 billion will be received in programme mode and project mode.
According to the P&D, World Bank is providing funds for Punjab Human Capital Investment Project; Punjab Resources and Revenue Development Programme and Punjab Urban Land System Enhancement Project. The WB is also funding Sewage Project of Larex Colony and establishment of water treatment plants at Mehmood Booti and BRB.
Moreover, the WB is also providing financial assistance for Punjab Rural Sustainable Water and Sanitation Project and New Pakistan Housing Project. Similarly, French Development Agency is providing funds for Heritage and Urban Registration Project at Lahore Fort and its Buffer Zone.
On the other hand, sources in the Finance Department informed that the Punjab government is going to secure loans for revamp and reforms in provincial departments. Under the programme, the provincial government will receive Rs 50 billion from World Bank.
The officials explained that with the funds, tax policy and administrative affairs will be improved in the provincial departments.
