KARACHI – Renowned actor Mohammad Ahmed has strongly criticised the Pakistani entertainment industry for the persistent delays in payments to artists, describing the situation as humiliating and exploitative.
In a video message shared on his Instagram account, the senior actor revealed that despite fulfilling all professional commitments with dedication and punctuality, artists are often forced to wait months for their dues. “When we’re made to sign contracts, it is expected that we follow every clause—and we do. I always ensure I am never late on set, never cause inconvenience, and work with honesty and professionalism,” he said.
Lamenting the prevailing payment practices, Ahmed stated, “Except for one or two production houses, timely payments are unheard of. It’s normal to face delays of three to four months. And even then, you have to beg like a pauper, explain your personal hardships, and only then you might receive a cheque—which is handed over as if they’re doing you a favour.”
He further criticised production houses for violating artists’ dignity, saying, “They make it a point in every project that the actors ask for their own money like beggars.
Talking about payments is still considered inappropriate, but how long will we keep turning a blind eye? In today’s time, money is not just a necessity but a harsh reality—especially for those whose sole source of income is the entertainment industry.”
Ahmed also highlighted that actors are often forced to work long hours, up to 20 hours a day, with no regard for compensation.
“When it’s time to pay, phone calls are ignored, or responses are disgracefully rude,” he added.
