The Lahore administration on Friday allowed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to take out rallies in the city’s NA-123 constituency.
The PTI, as per its plan, would hold a rally in Kahna area on October 22. The permission came at the moment when the PML-N is holding a grand reception for its supreme leader Nawaz Sharif who is due to arrive in Lahore after four years’ self-exile in London.
Previously, the PTI’s request for a gathering at Liberty Roundabout was denied by the district coordination officer (DCO).
On Monday, the PTI, represented by lawyer ShoaibShaheen, raised concerns about the impartiality of the caretaker government. Shaheen argued that the party had submitted more than 100 applications seeking permission for public gatherings and rallies, but none had been approved.
Shaheen also questioned the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) ability to address the alleged injustices faced by the PTI. The PTI lawyer expressed doubts about the upcoming elections, given what he described as a challenging environment for his party. He suggested that the country’s issues may not be adequately resolved through elections under such circumstances.
