RAWALPINDI – Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, on Wednesday alleged that her brother’s life is in danger and that he is being subjected to inhumane treatment in prison. She announced that the matter will be taken to the Supreme Court.
Speaking to the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, Aleema Khan expressed concern over the continued detention of Imran Khan and her nephew, terming it unlawful.
“Our brother and nephew are being kept in illegal custody. Our focus is on the release of innocent prisoners,” she stated.
Aleema claimed that Imran Khan is being held in solitary confinement, deprived of access to newspapers and television.
“He has been completely isolated. The jail superintendent is lying. My brother doesn’t lie. Maryam Nawaz sent this superintendent to inflict cruelty on Imran Khan,” she alleged.
“His life is in danger, and we are going to the Supreme Court.”
She further revealed that Imran Khan has sent a strong message to the party leadership from prison, urging them to end internal conflicts and relaunch the movement.
“Imran Khan is facing extremely difficult conditions. The party must speak out. He says he will only negotiate for the nation’s interest, not for any personal deal. Efforts to break him include unjust actions against Bushra Bibi,” Aleema said.
Imran Khan is receiving full B-Class privileges: jail officials
Meanwhile, Adiala Jail authorities issued an official statement refuting Aleema Khan’s claims, asserting that Imran Khan is receiving all B-Class facilities and is in good health.
According to jail officials, Imran Khan’s vital organs are regularly examined and are functioning normally.
“He enjoys better facilities than most B-Class prisoners, including a nutritious diet, access to books and newspapers, exercise equipment, and an LED television. He exercises for two hours daily in an open courtyard,” the statement said.
The jail administration also noted that Imran Khan has not reported any illness in the past two weeks and that he undergoes regular check-ups by the prison’s designated medical officer.
The officials added that over the last three months, 66 individuals including party leaders, family members and lawyers have visited the former prime minister. They confirmed that Imran Khan remains politically active from prison, issues guidance on elections, protests and constitutional matters, with his statements appearing in headlines 45 times.
The jail authorities dismissed the rumors circulating on the social and digital media as baseless and accused some individuals of spreading falsehoods for publicity.
“There is no discriminatory treatment being given to Imran Khan. All procedures are being followed in accordance with the law,” they added.
