ISLAMABAD – Heavy monsoon rains triggered a massive landslide in the picturesque Murree region, causing significant damage and resulting in the closure of the Murree Road near Salgran area.
Authorities have advised all travelers and tourists to use the Murree Expressway as an alternative route until further notice.
The landslide not only disrupted traffic but also injured Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, who was visiting the affected site along with Murree DPO Asif Amin Awan on Thursday.
During their visit, another large rockslide occurred, striking the DC and causing a fracture in his foot. Fortunately, the DPO’s vehicle narrowly escaped the falling debris.
The DC was rushed to THQ Hospital for immediate medical treatment, where his condition was reported as stable.
According to district officials, a large portion of the road near Salgran was swept away due to the intense rainfall.
Over the past 24 hours, the Murree region recorded 41 mm of rainfall, leading to multiple incidents of landslides and road blockages.
Under the DC’s directives, all relevant departments and emergency response teams have been placed on high alert.
Relief and debris clearance operations are ongoing, with teams working around the clock in coordination with other government agencies to restore access and ensure public safety.
