In order to check the growing incidence of breast cancer among Pakistani women, Pink Pakistan Trust Friday launched a smartphone app to create awareness about breast cancer and provide free of cost treatment to the breast cancer patients in the country, says a press release.
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among Pakistani women and claimed the lives of 13, 725 women during the last year.
To counter the challenge, the digital initiative will build its outreach in every nook and corner of the country for the women who do not have the means to seek professional medical help.
On the occasion, ‘Pink Pakistan’ president Dr Zubaida Qazi said, “Early detection is the key to defeating breast cancer.
Our application will create the much-needed awareness about the disease and will help the users to perform self-examination regularly and detect breast cancer at early stages.”
The rare mobile application’s key features include self-examination, appointment with the specialist doctors, discussion forum, accessible in local languages.
One of the most common symptoms of breast cancer is the formation of a lump in the breast which grows by the time and causes pain.
Owing to the shame associated with this disease in the society, many women would not speak even to their family members about it.
The app also facilitates women to perform self-examination and diagnose the disease at the earliest.
This feature is easy to use and comes with step-by-step video tutorials of the entire process.
The app has a list of doctors with whom they can reserve an appointment free of cost.
‘Pink Pakistan’ boasts a pool of qualified and experienced doctors and therapists across the country.
The app also caters to the need through an online discussion forum where the users can ask questions freely without any judgement, learn from the experience of others.
Besides Urdu and English, the application has been made available in the local languages, including Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi and Pashto.
‘Pink Pakistan’ app can easily be installed from the Google Play Store.
