CHIEF of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir held a telephonic conversation on Sunday with Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.
The discussion came in the wake of the recent 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel—a crisis that once again underscored the volatility of the region. During the call, General Mousavi expressed heartfelt gratitude to Pakistan for its unwavering support during the Israeli aggression, commending Islamabad’s “courageous stance” and thanking the people of Pakistan for their bold and principled position against the unprovoked attacks by the Zionist regime.
Pakistan’s solidarity with its Iranian brothers and sisters was not limited to rhetoric. In a rare show of national consensus, both the National Assembly and the Senate of Pakistan passed unanimous resolutions condemning the Israeli aggression and voicing strong support for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Furthermore, at the United Nations, Pakistan took a clear and unequivocal position, supporting Iran and denouncing the illegitimate use of force by Israel that resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including senior Iranian military personnel and scientists. This diplomatic and parliamentary stance reflects more than just official policy; it is a representation of the aspirations and sentiments of the Pakistani people. The unprovoked Israeli strikes deeply perturbed the people of Pakistan, who view Iran not just as a neighbour, but as a brotherly nation with which we share deep religious, cultural and historical ties.
What is especially heartening is the mutual affection and understanding that exists between the peoples of the two countries. As fraternal neighbours, it is imperative that Pakistan and Iran continue to nurture this bond—not only by standing together during times of crisis but also by working closely in areas of economic cooperation and regional security. The region’s peace and prosperity hinge on strong bilateral relations grounded in mutual respect, trust and a shared vision for stability. The recent developments remind us that in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, enduring partnerships built on shared values and common struggles are more vital than ever. Pakistan’s resolute support for Iran is a reaffirmation of its commitment to justice, regional peace and brotherhood—principles that must guide our foreign policy in the years to come.
