Qatar’s foreign ministry said on Monday the truce in Gaza has been extended for two more days. “An agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian truce for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip,” a foreign ministry spokesperson said.
Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Monday said that it has agreed with Qatar and Egypt to a two-day extension in truce.
Meanwhile, Arab states and the European Union have agreed at a meeting in Spain that a two-state solution was the answer to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell saying the Palestinian Authority should rule Gaza, Reuters reports.
Borrell said all EU members attending the meeting of Mediterranean nations in Barcelona and almost all attendees overall had agreed on the need for a two-state solution.
The Palestinian Authority must hold elections and improve its functioning but is the only “viable solution” to the future leadership of Gaza, currently run by Hamas Islamists, to avoid a “power vacuum”, he said.
Meanwhile, the military wing of the Palestinian group Hamas has said that four of its leaders have been martyred since October 7.
“The Al-Qassam Brigades is mourning a group of its heroic leaders, namely Commander Ahmed Al-Ghandour, known as Abu Anas, a member of the Military Council, the commander of the Northern Brigade, and the leaders: Wael Rajab, Raafat Salman, and Ayman Siam,” the group said in a statement. —Agencies
