‘Children of black English’
Senior bureaucrats and officers of both the Federal and the Punjab governments have taken exception to the boorish remarks passed about them by a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) of Punjab during a recently-held Assembly session.
Reportedly, an MPA was angry with the former Secretary Mines and Minerals Babar Aman Babar, a PAS officer of BPS-20 for passing an order against him and initiating an inquiry into theft of minerals worth hundreds of millions of rupees.
The things started going wrong when Babar refused to entertain pressure. The MPA upon his failure moved a privilege motion in the Punjab Assembly to pressurize Babar.
At that time another MPA called all Secretaries and Babar as ‘KalayAngraizkiAulaad’ or ‘Children of black English.’
This scribe has been told that Babar was shocked to hear insulting remarks in the Assembly specially the use of words “ kalayangraizkiaulad” and protested in the privilege committee. He kept on asking them the reason of such an uncalled for, racist, and hostile behaviour for absolutely no fault of his.
After the entire saga, this scribe held meetings with dozens of the federal officers including Federal Secretaries, Joint Secretaries and other bureaucrats .
They were of the view that the highly insulting remarks reflect the contempt of the MPAs and the same are quite unacceptable.
A senior officer of grade-19 while talking to Pakistan Observer on Wednesday said that the parliamentarians try to humiliate us through use of such provocative remarks , we are deeply hurt.
We are not corrupt and we have passed the highest competitive examinations and expect to be treated with respect and dignity, said another disgruntled officer.
We are keenly waiting an action against the responsible MPAs by the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz who always encourages and protects the upright officers, the officer further said.
Chief Secretary Punjab has also reportedly conveyed his colleagues’ resentment to the CM requesting prompt notice of the situation.
It may be mentioned here that Mr Babar Aman Babar is considered an upright and honest officer. During his more than two decade long service, he has served on different positions and has always successfully achieved the targets.
Babar Aman’s past profile shows him an outstanding officer. It has also been learnt that the officer is held in very high esteem by his peers and he holds very strict views against corruption and corrupt practices.
According to sources, it seems that some powerful interest groups were behind his ouster otherwise the Chief Minister Punjab liked the officer and did not wish him transferred despite repeated entreaties from certain quarters.
