Sindh Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon announced that several significant decisions aimed at public welfare were approved during the recent Sindh Cabinet meeting. Speaking at a press conference, Memon highlighted the approval of primary teacher appointments in Obawaro and measures to curb debris disposal on roads by arresting offenders. He stressed that the Sindh government spends billions on solid waste management and that irresponsible disposal exacerbates problems like blocked drains.
The Cabinet also decided to introduce an e-logistics portal and e-payment facilities, aiming to digitize 16 out of 48 provincial departments with World Bank support. This move is expected to enhance transparency and allow citizens to access services online. Departments involved in this initiative include food, environment, revenue, SBCA, and municipalities. A notable project approved is the development of a modern hospital, school, autism center, and playground for special children on 100 acres along Malir Expressway.
This complements previous efforts by the Sindh government and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The registration fee for electric vehicles has been extended for another two years at Rs 1,000, following the introduction of 50 EV buses. The target is to operate 8,000 buses, with new routes in Karachi.
Discussions were also held regarding the steel mill, with plans to create an export processing zone to financially support the mill. The meeting also addressed housing societies for government employees, providing plots at low costs with installment payment options. A committee has been formed to manage government land for corporate agricultural farming projects, previously allocated 52,713 acres by the caretaker government.
Approval was granted for the Hub River water plant project, set to commence within a year, aiming to resolve Karachi’s water issues. Memon highlighted Karachi’s leadership in operating eco-friendly EV buses, emphasizing their environmental benefits and cost-effectiveness. Sindh is the pioneering province in Pakistan for alternative energy projects, including wind power. Lastly, Memon reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on drugs, acknowledging the significant and ongoing battle against drug abuse.
