The Central Muslim League (CML) has announced a significant protest campaign against K-Electric and NEPRA due to their persistent mismanagement and oppressive practices that have plunged Karachi into darkness. In a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday, Sindh and Balochistan President of CML, Faisal Nadeem, declared that the government has given power companies free rein to exploit the public. He emphasized that Karachi’s residents are suffering immensely due to K-Electric’s harsh measures. Nadeem stated that the CML would initiate a comprehensive public campaign against the continuous abuses by K-Electric and NEPRA, utilizing their constitutional and legal rights to stage protests, sit-ins, and even siege the offices of K-Electric, alongside pursuing legal action.
During the press conference, Nadeem was accompanied by Karachi President Ahmad NadeemAwan, engineer Nauman Ali, Mehdi Ishaq, and other party leaders. Nadeem criticized the ongoing unannounced load shedding during the heatwave alert, which has extended to over 14 hours in several areas.
He blamed K-Electric’s mismanagement and stubbornness for turning the city of lights into a city of darkness. He also condemned NEPRA’s new policies, which limit the facility of installment payments on electricity bills, calling it an injustice to the public. Nadeem accused NEPRA of devising policies that further push impoverished people into darkness. He urged NEPRA to stop these oppressive actions, warning that if this approach continues, the public will exercise their constitutional right to launch a powerful movement against both NEPRA and K-Electric. Nadeem highlighted Karachi’s critical role as Pakistan’s economic hub, stating that prolonged unannounced load shedding has severely affected trade, industry.
