Committee formed to probe administering expired injections to cancer patients in Lahore

LAHORE – Mayo Hospital has constituted a five-member committee to probe the incident of administering expired injections to cancer patients.
The committee, headed by Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Butt, Principal Medical Officer (PMO), Orthopaedic Unit-II, will conduct audit, fix responsibility and submit report along with recommendations within two days.
The other members of the committee are Dr Qazi Mumtaz, Assistant Professor of Paeds Medicine Unit-I, Ms Tahira Khatoon, Deputy Chief Nursing Superintendent, Ms Sadia Khaliq, Chief Pharmacist, and Muhammad Hifzan, Audit Officer.
As per the hospital administration, three patients were administered expired injections in oncology ward of the health facility. There is a possibility of rise in numbers of cancer patients administered expired injections. On getting reports, inspection team recovered dozens of expired injections from pharmacy of oncology department.
CEO Mayo Hospital has confirmed recovery of expired injections, saying that the store keeper has been suspended for negligence from duty.
