LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has abolished the fee for birth and death certificates under newly-enforced the Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025.
On the instructions of the chief minister, computerized birth and death certificates will also be issued free of cost.
Citizens can now get registered free of charge in Union Councils and Municipal Committees for up to 7 years. The condition of a court decree for late registration of births and deaths has also been revoked in Punjab.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that identity is a fundamental right of every citizen and that the aim is to create ease for the people.
She said that a digital birth and death certificate is mandatory for availing services, and timely registration of births and deaths ensures the protection of citizens’ rights.
In Punjab, Pakistan, birth certificates are officially issued by Union Councils. This essential document records the birth of a child and includes details such as the child’s name, date of birth, parents’ names, and place of birth.
It serves as legal proof of identity and age, required for school admission, passport applications, and various government services. Recently, the Punjab government made birth registration completely free and easier for all citizens.
Parents can register a child’s birth within seven years without any charges. Computerized birth certificates are now issued digitally, ensuring transparency, accessibility, and the protection of every citizen’s rights.
