LAHORE – Several local media shared stories of the traffic challan of Junaid Safdar, the son of sitting Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, but there is little correction needed in this.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also hailed traffic police officials after they issued ticket to a vehicle accompanying her son, Junaid Safdar, for violating traffic rules in Lahore’s Johar Town.
The incident occurred today on Monday in Johar Town area, which took an unexpected turn when traffic police stopped a convoy vehicle accompanying Junaid Safdar for a traffic violation. Without showing any prerogative, Junaid Safdar was okay with officers’ actions and reportedly told them, “You have done your duty well—I will pay the fine.”
Some news outlets reported of direct fine on Junaid Safdar himself. However, official sources later clarified that the fine was issued to one of the security vehicles, not to Junaid Safdar’s personal vehicle.
What surprised many was the dignified response from both Junaid Safdar and his mother. Instead of using political influence to avoid accountability, Maryam Nawaz went a step further and publicly praised the police officers involved. She applauded Dolphin Force team that issued the fine, personally naming and commending team in-charge Shahzaib and officers Parvez, Haider, and Mujahid.
“You ensured the rule of law, and I commend your professionalism,” Maryam said, saying respect for the law is the cornerstone of our government, and I want to see equal enforcement across all of Punjab. Social media users alike have welcomed this gesture as a positive step toward strengthening institutional respect and the rule of law.
