Many diseases are increasing rapidly despite annual Rs550bn spending on medicines in the country, said by Dr. Arshad Saleem – COO, Hamdard Pakistan.
He was speaking at an educational seminar held yesterday, titled “crises of healthcare: Role of Hikmat in 21st century” organized by Hamdard Pakistan at Naimat Begum Hamdard University Hospital. Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Suri – head of Philosophy Department, University of Karachi was invited as a guest speaker.
Dr. Saleem said: “Both non-communicable and communicable diseases are increasing rapidly due to unhealthy lifestyle and unbalanced diet.
In addition there is lack of healthcare facilities to properly diagnose complicated diseases.”
He also said “Hamdard Pakistan not only wants to provide affordable medicines and extend the outreach of its healthcare facilities but also has been instrumental in creating awareness among general masses about healthy life style and balanced diet through awareness programs, publications, CSR activities and seminars.”
Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Suri said: “Hikmat is the essence of the maturity of human intellect and consciousness. Hikmat is a system of harmonize treatment.
Referring to the limitations of modern therapies, he said that modern medicine and diagnosis focus on a disease rather than a patient, which may lead to health, but may cause side effects.
Therefore, it is important for today’s modern physician to check a patient as done by a Hakim, who not only focuses on a disease but also treats a patient as a human being, the environment around a patient, lifestyle and his/her mental health.”
Prof. Dr. Hakim Abdul Hannan – Head of Clinical Sciences Division, presented a shield of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Suri on behalf of Hamdard Pakistan.
