The Election Commission of Pakistan has failed to take a decision regarding holding elections according to the new census.
Sources said that two meetings of the ECP were held to discuss holding elections which remained inconclusive.
The ECP is hesitant to hold elections according to new census, they added. The legal team apprised the ECP of constitutional requirement of new constituencies under Article 51(5). The team advised the ECP to wait for the dissolution of the assemblies.
Moreover, the ECP is also waiting for the announcement of a date by President Arif Alvi for holding general elections, sources concluded.
Meanwhile The Election Commission of Pakistan has banned the transfers, postings on federal level after the dissolution of National Assembly and federal cabinet.
The Election Commission of Pakistan directed to the Secretary Establishment in a letter that National Assembly and federal cabinet are dissolved hence the transfers and posting should be stopped till the constitution of caretaker government. The letter stated that after the formation of caretaker setup transfers and posting can be made.
