All Punjab educational boards have decided to conduct the matriculation exams for science and arts in English medium. According to details the option for Urdu in question papers would be
eliminated. The new policy will be effective from the year 2025.
Additionally, starting from 2026, all optional subjects for the FA exams will also be taken in English medium. The Formal approval of the new policy will be given in the Punjab Boards
Committee Chairmen (PBCC) meeting.
Moreover, Rana Liaqat Ali, the General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, expressed fear about the consequences of the new policy. He said that thousands of students will fail under the new policy due to the language barrier.
“Taking the exam in English medium will reduce the literacy rate, training should be provided to the teachers before taking the exam”, he added.
