IT is a matter of great satisfaction that both Pakistan and the UAE are exploring ways to enhance their existing economic, trade and investment ties.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Rahim Yar Khan, UAE’s President, Sheikh Muhammad Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, hinted that his country is planning to broaden its investment footprint in Pakistan.
“Be prepared, the UAE will make a huge investment in Pakistan,” the sources quoted the UAE President as saying during the meeting with PM Shehbaz.
The UAE’s President has always shown special warmth and affection for the people of Pakistan.
Most recently he provided the much needed economic lifeline to us by announcing to lend one billion dollars and rolling over an existing two billion dollars.
His latest announcement of making a big investment indeed is a big development for Pakistan which at present is faced with a serious balance of payment crisis.
There is no denying that the UAE is amongst the few countries which has always stood by Pakistan in difficult times.
The people of Pakistan also greatly value this support and see the development of the Arab country in diverse sectors with great admiration.
Rather the UAE has become one of the most preferred choices for our youths to find livelihood opportunities.
As regards investment, there are immense opportunities for investment in Pakistan including in the industries, agriculture and the IT sector.
Pakistan, being a market of over two hundred and twenty million people, offers the investors a strong and large consumer market.
Since the offer of investment is from the UAE side, we should not miss on it, rather engage deeply with the fraternal country in order to ensure its early realization.
Any hurdles or obstacles coming in the way of investment must be removed and the UAE side must be extended full facilitation.
It is only through foreign direct investment that we can steer the country out of the current quagmire and put it on the path of sustainable economic growth.
Definitely, these are very difficult times for us but at the same time, opportunities are also knocking at our doors and by capitalizing on them we can change the whole economic landscape of our country.
We can learn a lot from the UAE’s successes in different fields.
