ISLAMABAD – In a decisive action, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued an order to disable mobile phone SIMs of 506, 671 individuals who are not appearing on the active taxpayer list but are obligated to file Income Tax Returns for the Tax Year 2023.

The tax authority has issued an Income Tax General Order (ITGO) under the authority vested by section 114B of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

FBR has instructed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and all telecom operators to enforce the ITGO with immediate effect, ensuring swift implementation of the order.

It also sought a compliance report from the telecom operators by May 15, 2024.

How to Unblock Your SIM Card?

The individuals whose SIMs will be blocked can get them unblocked by filing the Income Tax Return for 2023. The SIMs will remain blocked until restored by the FBR or the Commissioner Inland Revenue having jurisdiction over the individual.

After you file the tax returns, the authority concerned will take a decision about restoration of the SIM card.
