ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir has been promoted to highest rank of Field Marshal. The country’s top general expresed his gratitude, and thanked Prime Minister, President, and federal cabinet for their support in key milestone.
In a statement from military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Asim Munir termed his promotion not as an individual achievement but as an honor for the entire Pakistan Armed Forces and the nation. This elevation marks a rare and distinguished moment in Pakistan’s military history, underscoring Munir’s leadership and dedication.
The federal government’s decision to elevate Munir to Field Marshal reflects confidence in his role in strengthening the country’s defense and security framework. This rank, rarely bestowed, places Munir among the top echelons of Pakistan’s military leadership.
The announcement has been widely welcomed across the country, with many viewing it as a boost to national morale and a testament to the strength of Pakistan’s armed forces.
Field Marshal is highest and only five-star rank in the Pakistan Army, awarded as a lifetime honorary title for exceptional military service. Only General Ayub Khan and recently General Asim Munir have held this rank, recognizing their outstanding leadership.
Though prestigious, the rank carries no operational command or constitutional powers. President appoints Field Marshals in consultation with government and judicial bodies. Pakistan’s constitution ensures that this rank remains symbolic, with no extra-legal authority granted to its holders.
