The meeting, held in the White House Cabinet Room, marks rare one-on-one encounter between Pakistani military leader and American president. The timing also makes it more important as it comes after major escation between Pakistan and India.
The meeting is said to be key step toward rebuilding trust and advancing mutual geopolitical interests. Officials say President Trump played key role in mediating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India following a recent five-day conflict. The White House has also hinted at Trump’s willingness to mediate longstanding issues, including the Kashmir dispute.
During his U.S. visit, Field Marshal Munir is expected to hold further high-level meetings with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Pakistani leaders said US President Trump’s efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region have not gone unnoticed, as Islamabad emerged diplomatically and militarily strong from the recent conflict.
In his visit, Army Chief Asim Munir earlier interacted with Pakistani diaspora in Washington, where he praised their role in supporting Pakistan’s economy and global reputation.
