Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid said here on Tuesday that Ganga Ram Mother and Child Block will be the first to provide test tube baby facility.
The Health Minister attended Fatima Jinnah Medical University’s Convocation 2022 as guest of honour. Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar was chief guest of the ceremony.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Professor Amir Zaman Khan appreciated the contribution of Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid for improvement in healthcare services. The convocation ceremony began with formal recitation and national anthem. Governor Punjab, Health Minister and Vice Chancellor distributed medals and certificate among students.
The Health Minister said, “I congratulate graduates, teachers and students. Ganga Ram Hospital and Lady Wellington Hospital have served people right from the day they were set up. A two-decade old dream of setting up of a dedicated mother and child block is about to be realized. An improved service for mother and child was a dream of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
We are setting up 600-bedded mother and child block at Ganga Ram Hospital. This will be one of a kind facility having many super specialties like urogynecology and oncology.
This will be first public sector hospital with test tube baby facility. My appreciation for the vice chancellor for great work in accordance with deadlines. Ganga Ram Hospital is being completed within a short span of 19 months.
The Mother and Child block will be a referral facility and shall be operational by June 2022. Overall, eight mother and child hospitals are being set up in different areas of Punjab.
No past government thought of providing health facilities at this scale to people. Prime Minister Imran Khan had emphasized the need to improve mother and child indicators in his first speech.
The government is spending Rs. 400 billion on the provision of free health facilities under the Naya Pakistan Qomi Sehat Card Program.
Our government is spending public money on public alone. By 31st March 2022, Govt of the Punjab will provide health insurance to entire population of Punjab. So far we have empaneled 590 hospitals under Naya Pakistan Qomi Sehat Card Program. So far 98000 people have availed free eye treatment facility under the card.
Only in private sector hospitals of Lahore, more than 600 people have availed cardiac treatment facility. Prime Minister Imran Khan is investing money on people and making Pakistan Riyast-e-Madina. Last government invested on bridges and roads and neglected health.
They were running the health departments with 50% of its human resource capacity. So far we have hired 48,000 doctors, nurses and paramedical staff. Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department recently advertised 15,000 new positions.
