ISLAMABAD – Widespread monsoon rains are expected in Pakistan from July 5 to July 10 with occasional gaps.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents are continuously penetrating and the rains are likely to continue during next couple of days in the country. Monsoon rains will intensify from July 5 evening/night. A westerly wave will also approach upper parts on 06th July.
Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, countrywide widespread monsoon rains are expected till July 10
Kashmir/Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Rains and gusty winds with scattered heavy and at times very heavy falls are expected in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Manshera, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram) from July 05 to July 10 with occasional gaps.
Gilgit-Baltistan: Rains and gusty winds are expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from July 6 to July 10 with occasional gaps.
Punjab/Islamabad: Rains and gusty winds with scattered heavy and at times very heavy falls are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from July 5 to July 10 with occasional gaps. Rains and gusty winds are also expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah July 6 to July 8.
Balochistan/ Sindh: Rains and gusty winds with isolated heavy falls are expected in northeastern/southern Balochistan (Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Naseerabad, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Awaran, Kalat, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti and Kohlu) on July 3 evening/night & July 4 and from July 6 to July 8.
Light to moderate rains and gusty winds are expected in Sindh (Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin and Karachi on July 3 evening/night) and July 4 with occasional gaps. Isolated heavy falls are also expected in southeastern/lower Sindh.
Impacts: Heavy to very heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and parts of Balochistan from July 5 to July 8.
Downpour may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar from July 6 to July 8. Landslides/mudslides may cause roads closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Rains, windstorms and lightning may damage dilapidated buildings and structures like electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast. Travelers and tourists are advised to avoid unusual exposure in vulnerable areas to avoid any untoward situation and keep updated about any change in weather conditions.
