LAHORE – Heavy rains lashed Lahore and parts of Punjab on Thursday, disrupting routine life by causing urban flooding, traffic disturbances and power outages.
Experts have predicted the wet spell to continue intermittently on Thursday evening/night and Friday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents penetrate the upper and central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also affects the upper and central parts of the country.
Under these conditions, more widespread intermittent monsoon rains are expected in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot, Okara, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday evening/night and Friday. Isolated heavy rains are also expected in northeast/southern Punjab during the period.
Heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan. Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galiyat. Downpour may also cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad.
Lahore’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 31°C and 33°C on Friday and between 33°C and 35°C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, rains and gusty winds with isolated heavy falls occurred in Lahore and parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Bahawalpur remained the hottest place in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. The maximum temperature in Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan was recorded at 39°C.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 100 per cent.
