RAWALPINDI – Administration has announced a one-day holiday in Rawalpindi district on July 17 due to weather conditions.
The Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi has issued a holiday notification. The public is appealed to stay at home and not to leave their homes unnecessarily.
The development comes after torrential rain has drenched Rawalpindi and Islamabad. A total of 129 millimeters of rain has been recorded in the twin cities.
Due to the rain, the water level in Nullah Lai has reached 16 feet at Katarian and 14 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge.
Warning sirens have been sounded around Nullah Lai, and all departments including Rescue, WASA, and Civil Defense have been put on high alert. The MD of WASA has also contacted the Triple One Brigade of the Pakistan Army.
According to the spokesperson, a decision has been made to call in the Pakistan Army in case of an emergency.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast more rain.
