ISLAMABAD – Hybrid Car prices in Pakistan are expected to climb high as Green Taxes will push prices of Hyundai Tucson and other models. With 2pc tax on vehicles with 1301cc–1800cc engines, both Tucson Hybrid variants will see price increases of around Rs2lac.
As costs rise and further hikes are anticipated, consumers may need to reconsider their purchasing plans or explore other options. In Budget 2025-26, the government announced applicable only to petrol vehicles, but scope of the Green Tax has now officially been expanded to cover HEVs as well.
According to the new tax structure, HEVs with engine sizes between 1301cc and 1800cc will incur a 2% tax on the ex-factory price. This directly affects both variants of the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, which comes equipped with a 1.6L engine.
Hyundai Tucson Expected Price in Pakistan
Model | Old Price | Green Tax | New Price |
Tucson Hybrid Smart | 10,999,000 | 220,000 | 11,220,000 |
Tucson Hybrid Signature | 11,999,000 | 240,000 | 12,240,000 |
As a result of the new Green Tax policy, both variants of the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid will experience a notable price increase. The tax imposes a 2% levy on vehicles with engine capacities between 1301cc and 1800cc, a category under which the Tucson Hybrid’s 1.6L engine falls.
Meanwhile, the Tucson Hybrid Smart, originally priced at Rs. 10,999,000, will now cost Rs. 11,220,000 after an additional Rs. 219,980 in tax. Similarly, the Tucson Hybrid Signature will see its price rise from Rs. 11,999,000 to Rs. 12,240,000 due to Rs2.4Lac tax.
While this increase may appear modest in percentage terms, it adds a substantial amount to the vehicle’s total cost, which could influence consumer purchasing decisions in an increasingly competitive market.
NOTE: However, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) with an electric-only range of at least 50 kilometers will remain exempt from this levy.
Hyundai Tucson Hybrid has been gaining popularity among eco-conscious consumers who want improved fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance. However, the new tax might impact buyer sentiment, especially since competing fully electric vehicles (EVs) are exempt from this tax altogether.
Authorities argue that even though hybrids are more fuel-efficient than traditional vehicles, they still use fossil fuels and contribute to emissions, justifying their inclusion in the tax. The funds generated through this tax will reportedly be allocated toward environmental cleanup projects and sustainability initiatives.
Hyundai Tucson remains among top compact SUV in Pakistan. Two variants include FWD GLS Sport and AWD Ultimate variants. It features a 2.0L engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and offers fuel economy of 10 km/l (city) and 12 km/l (highway). It includes modern features like a 10-inch touchscreen, lane departure warning, and cruise control.
Tucson has stylish design, spacious interior, smooth ride, but slightly delayed gear shifts and some body roll at high speeds. Maintenance is costly despite local assembly, though parts are easily available. Rivals include the KIA Sportage, MG HS, DFSK Glory 580, Haval Jolion, and Proton X70.
