Pakistan’s international all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed is among the late entrants to register for the draft of “The Hundred” competition.
Iftikhar is joined by five other Paksitani players which raises their number from 57 to 63 for this year’s draft.
Ahmed Shehzad, Tayyab Tahir, Mir Hamza and Muhammad Ilyas are the other players who have registered themselves for the draft in the overseas players’ category.
Pakistan already had a strong contingent in contention for selection with Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Fakhar Zaman and Sarfaraz Ahmed among those who have already registered their names.
The draft for “The Hundred” is set to take place today with Iftikhar Ahmed among people hoping to hear their name called to fill up the 135 spots among a pool of well over 800 people from 28 different countries.
113 players were retained by their respective franchises across the men’s and women’s tournaments while Shadab Khan was the only player from Pakistan to have been retained by his franchise.
The Hundred is a neoteric innovation introduced in cricket by the England and Wales Cricket Board where each team bats and bowls for 100 deliveries with modified rules in several areas.
The competition is heading for a third season with the first game scheduled on August 1st.
