LONDON — Wimbledon witnessed one of most sensationla performances as Iga Swiatek delivered tennis masterclass, outclassing Amanda Anisimova within one hour to claim her sixth Grand Slam title.
Not a single game lost by 24-year-old Polish top seed as she didnot just win the final but she annihilated her opponent, becoming the first woman since 1911 to win a Wimbledon final without conceding a single game. History was not just made, it was rewritten on July 12.
Anisimova, who had pulled off a miracle by eliminating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semis, was completely overwhelmed. She racked up 28 unforced errors and managed to win just 24 points in a match that felt over before it even began. “I ran out of gas today,” she admitted on court — but it was Swiatek who lit the fire.
This was Swiatek’s first ever Wimbledon title and her first Grand Slam win outside of clay since conquering the U.S. Open in 2022. Known for her dominance on Roland Garros’ red dirt, many questioned whether she could master the grass courts of London. Consider that question obliterated.
Ranked No. 4 entering the tournament, Swiatek crushed her way through the draw, losing just one set the entire fortnight and only two games total in her last two matches. Her final three sets? Flawless. Not a single game dropped.
She now stands one major away — the Australian Open — from completing the coveted career Grand Slam. With this performance, it’s clear: Swiatek isn’t chasing legends — she’s becoming one.
Świątek is among top tennis stars, who won 23 WTA singles titles, including six Grand Slam victories, four at the French Open, one at Wimbledon, and one at the US Open. She is the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam singles title and also won the 2023 WTA Finals and ten WTA 1000 events.
She started her career as a junior, winning titles at the 2018 French Open (doubles) and Wimbledon (singles). After joining the WTA Tour in 2019, she broke into the top 50 and claimed her first major title at Roland Garros in 2020. Her breakout year came in 2022 with a 37-match win streak and Grand Slam wins in Paris and New York. She repeated her French Open win in 2023 and again in 2024, never losing before the fourth round at Roland Garros.
She has several honors under her belt including WTA Fan Favorite awards, L’Équipe’s Champion of Champions, Polish Sports Personality of the Year, and a spot on Time’s 100 Most Influential People list.
